10 years using Facebook
In 2014, for the 10-year celebration, Facebook made a look back video for each user. Recently, Facebook has reminded me of that video and I watched it. I joined the network in 2011 and now, this has been a 10-year journey. Hence, this post is about my experience with the largest social network in the world right now.
For me, there is no doubt about the connectivity power of Fb when bringing people together. And as an IT student, I also admire Fb as one of the biggest technology companies in the world with their high-level technology, researches, etc. In this post, I will focus on what have changes in me through this long journey as an user.
Online friends
When I first started, my Fb friends are some actual friends, neighbors, brothers and sisters. There are not so many friends and they are quite close to me. Hence, I felt free to post my sudden emotion, or some silly things I could think of, or share some funny posts. Through time, my network has been growing, my parents, my ant and uncles, my nephews, my colleague, my teachers, and so on. During the time of drama, scandal, private scrutiny, the more people I connect, the less I want them to know about me. My words can be used against me someday. So, I choose to be a silent people online.
Status
I used to post some albums with hundreds of photos with a lot of expectation that people will see through every single picture, like and comment. That is a kind of getting attention power that Fb has given me.
Now I know, a very small number of people care about the story behind the status. On the internet, people only show the positive side of their life, no one knows about what actually happens. So, now, sometimes I post one picture with some nonsense sentences to update my current status. And I save some parts for someone who actually steps into my world.
Story
One day, I surfed about 40 posts on my news feed, some from groups, some from pages, some advertisements, but none of them from my friends. Maybe I lose my interaction or people are moving their wall to Story. The story is only available for a short time. Hence, people can post anything in their mind there as putting something into their diary. They can also be aware of who saw their stories and communicate directly.
Fb watch
Someone said you are willing to answer a conversation if you know it will not take long in advance. This can explain why people prefer watching many short videos rather than a very long video. I used to spend hours watching their recommended videos.
One thing I noted is that in the beginning, the advertisement lasted 30 seconds for each video, and I didn’t hesitate to skip the whole video. Then they reduced advertising time to 15, 10 seconds and I started burning my time.
At the moment, I do not use Fb app and Fb watch anymore, and it save me some time to do something else, like playing games ^^.
